How the Mold Test Kit Works
Before testing and during the testing period, turn off all portable fans to avoid blowing air over the areas to be tested. EPA recommends taking the living room and the bedroom for residential sampling. You'll need a vacuum dust collector with hose attachment to perform the test. Make sure the hose attachment is connected to the vacuum cleaner properly - use extension cord as needed.
Remove both caps from the sampling device, attach the round end of the sampler device to the end of the hose attachment of your vacuum cleaner and begin collecting your sample. Once sample collection is completed hold the sampling device upward toward the ceiling. Re-cap the slant end of the sampling device so that you don't lose the dust collected.
Mail the mold sampling device along with the completed data sheet to the laboratory for analysis.
Limitations of the Mold Test Kit
Although the mold test result can identify up to 36 mold species based from the collected sampling you sent to the lab, this test cannot provide details on the main source (s) of the mold problem. On the other hand, knowing for sure that your home is infested by certain types of molds, you can easily seek the assistance of a professional firm to help you determine the source (s) of the mold problem.
